Note: (Updated June 23 '08) The 1529 refractor pricing was announced earlier today. It will be $895 shipped in the US for the OTA package. If you see cheaper prices (for this or other Antares models) on other dealer sites, they haven't updated their prices. The first shipments are still expected to go out in about 2-3 weeks.

It's finally here! After a wait of over one year, Antares has re-introduced its highly regarded 6" refractor OTA - and it's even better than it was before! But hurry - only a very limited quantity have been produced and we expect this lot to sell out very soon.
If you've ever dreamed of owning a quality, large aperture refractor on a budget, your search ends here. Antares' 152mm refractor features a well-corrected, multi-coated, air-spaced Fraunhofer doublet objective that gulps in 44% more starlight than a 5" telescope and an astounding 131% more light than a 100mm refractor.
The Antares 1529 is a pretty "fast" f/6.5 telescope that is well suited to wide field observations. Despite its short focal length, the Low Dispersion Achromatic objective performs very well with less chromatic aberration (false color) compared to other competitor's telescopes on brighter objects. This is the same objective that was used in earlier production runs, so there is no change in the optics.
The optical tube, on the other hand, has been significantly improved. The tube is powder-coated in a glossy white finish. It features a sliding dew shield, an ultra-smooth dual-speed 2" Crayford 10:1 microfocuser with a 1.25" adapter (both with brass compression rings) and a metal dust cap. No finder is included, but the OTA includes a 50mm finder bracket. Also included with every OTA is a set of mounting rings and an 11" Vixen-style dovetail plate that is compatible with today's popular EQ and CG type mounts.
The new, Canadian-made lens
cell is not collimateable, but each individual telescope will be
star-tested by Antares prior to shipping.
This telescope is available in a variety of packages to suit your needs.
